1. Sachin & CN Rao to be honoured with Bharat Ratna Award. Sachin first sportsperson to win country’s highest civilian honour with Bharat Ratna. In a befitting tribute to a stellar career, especially on the day he was given a tearful farewell, Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Saturday announced the country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, for Sachin Tendulkar. The cricketing legend became the first sportsperson to get the award. The award will also be conferred on eminent scientist Prof CNR Rao. Prof Rao is an eminent scientist and a well recognised international authority on solid state and materials chemistry. He has published over 1,400 research papers and 45 books.’

2. ICC hails Tendulkar as a ‘sporting genius’. The ICC today paid rich tributes to Sachin Tendulkar, who retired from international cricket today after playing his 200th Test match, with its Chief Executive Dave Richardson saying that “sporting geniuses like Sachin are rare phenomenons”.’

3. Tendulkar era ends with India’s 2-0 sweep over West Indies. India has wrapped up an impressive innings and 126 runs victory over West Indies to get a 2-0 series win in the last Test of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, who got a warm send-off by his teammates. The visitors were bowled out for 187 after India made 495 in their first innings. Pragyan Ojha was declared the Man of the Match while Rohit Sharma was named the Man of the Series.’

4. National Press day is being celebrated across the country today. The day is symbolic of a free and responsible press in India. This is the day on which the Press Council of India started functioning as a moral watchdog to ensure that not only did the press maintain the high standards expected from this powerful medium but also that it was not fettered by the influence or threats of any extraneous factors.’

5. International Day for Tolerance was observed on 16 November 2013 across the world to educate people about the need for tolerance in society and to aware them about the dangers of intolerance. International Day for Tolerance is celebrated worldwide every year on 16 November to promote the Tolerance among the public. The day was first observed in 1995.’
6. Lord Swraj Paul, a leading NRI industrialist and educationist was presented with the International Indian of the Decade award on 15 November 2013. Swraj Paul was presented the award for his outstanding achievements in the fields of industry, education and philanthropy. Lord Swraj Paul is the founder of the UK-based steel and engineering multinational company Caparo, which at present employs about 10000 people worldwide from UK, USA and India.’

7. The 22nd Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, CHOGM began in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 15 November 2013. The Summit was inaugurated by Prince Charles of England, who is representing Queen Elizabeth at the Commonwealth Summit. The theme for CHOGM 2013 is Growth with Equity; Inclusive Development. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid is represented the India in the 22nd Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).’
8. India continued to enjoy the second position in the recently released Reliance ICC T20I Team Rankings. With 123 rating points in its kitty, India is five points behind leaders Sri Lanka (128). South Africa, meanwhile, has moved into the third position in the T20I team rankings after winning both the matches against Pakistan in Dubai, an ICC statement said.’

9. Former Cyprus president Glafkos Clerides died at 94. His death was announced by his personal physician and long time friend Iossif Kassios.’

11. Defending champion Viswanathan Anand lost to world No.1 Magnus Carlsen after 58 moves in a gruelling fifth game of the World Chess Championship in Chennai on Friday. Carlsen registered the first victory of the tournament after the previous four games all ended in draws.’

12. Ram Kripalu Tripathi, popularly known as Jagadguru Kripaluji Maharaj passed away on 15 November 2013 at New Delhi. He was 91 years old. He was given the title of Jagadguru (the world teacher) at the age of 34 years, in 1957.

13. Global adulation continued to pour in for Sachin Tendulkar, as after being named Person of the Moment, Time magazine has now conferred the retiring batting legend with the ‘Person of the Week’ honour. Tendulkar, who made an impressive 74 runs in his 200th and last Test, had previously been named ‘Person of the Moment’ by Time. The US magazine had asked readers to vote online in a poll for ‘Person of the Week’ for the week of November 10 and the 40-year-old got 54 votes, 88 per cent votes, way ahead of Yellen who got 13.41 per cent votes and Jinping with 6.1 per cent votes.

14. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)today performed the last of the five orbit-raising manoeuvre on its Mars Orbiter in the early hours, raising the apogee (farthest point from Earth) of the spacecraft to over 1.92 lakh km. After the successful completion of these operations, the Mars Orbiter mission is expected to take on the “crucial event” of the trans—Mars injection around 12.42 AM on December 1. It will reach the orbit of the red planet by September 24, 2014 after taking on a voyage of over 10 months.

15. Emergency response service provider GVK Emergency Management Research Institute (EMRI) has bagged the SKOCH award in the health category. It was conferred the platinum award for corporate excellence and outstanding contribution to the cause of nation-building at the 34th SKOCH Summit in New Delhi. Chidambaram and Montek Singh Ahluwalia appreciated the services provided by GVK EMRI in 14 States and 2 Union Territories, catering to over 700 million people. It operates with over 6,000 ambulances and over 25,000 staff.

16. Abdulla Yameen of Progressive Party of Maldives has won the Maldivian Presidential polls, as per the latest news received. Yameen has defeated Mohamed Nasheed of Maldivian Democratic Party with a narrow margin of about 6 thousand votes.

17. Chinese Government has announced some drastic economic reforms steps yesterday in order to boost economic growth. China plans to loosen its “one child” family planning policy, a move that would allow more couples to have two children, the ruling Communist Party announced. It will gradually reduce the number of crimes subject to death penalty and set up a new state security committee.
The party also promised to abolish its controversial “re-education through labour” camps, which were used to detain people without trial for up to four years. Many dissidents, legal activists and other opponents of party officials were detained alongside petty criminals in the camps.
Among the major economic measures are plans to: allow private banks; allow markets to set energy pricing; and encourage private capital in many sectors. The party plans to open up the banking sector wider, on condition of strengthened regulation, by allowing qualified private capital to set up small and medium-sized banks.

18. Magnus Carlsen beat five times world chess champion Vishwanathan Anand in the sixth round in the sixth game today. Though Anand had the advantage of making the first move in game, Carlsen’s briliant moves challenged Anand and he accepted his defeat in the 67th move. Now Carlsen has scored four points against Anand’s two points in the six games. Six more matches are remaining in a round in the total twelve games. The first player to reach 6.5 points will win 14 Crore rupees prize money.
