National Affairs
1. Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar was sworn in as the 22nd Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh by Governor Ram Naresh Yadav yesterday. He was appointed by President of India. He was earlier the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh and has also been a judge in the Bombay High Court.  He succeeded Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde who was elevated to the Supreme Court earlier this year.

2. India has overtaken China as the most attractive investment destination according to a survey conducted by Ernst & Young (EY) a global professional services and consulting firm. The top three investing countries into India, are United States of America (USA), France and Japan, as per the survey results.

3. The Reserve Bank of India has said today that it will launch CPI-indexed bonds aimed at protecting the savings of retail investors from the impact of price rise by the end of next month. “Guidelines will be out soon…We are likely to launch the first tranche before end of December. We will come out with details (quantum),” as per RBI Deputy Governor H.R. Khan. He also added “This year it should be between Rs 10,000-15,000 crore (wholesale price and consumer price indexed bonds) but exact amount will come out. This is part of overall borrowing programme”.

4. CBI has named a Deputy Managing Director of State Bank of India, a former AGM of the bank and a businessman in a case of alleged graft in disbursal of loan of above Rs 400 crore. Its Economic Offences Wing in Mumbai has registered a case against Deputy MD of SBI Shyamal Acharya who is also the head of Mid-Corporate wing of the Bank, former SBI official K.K. Kumarah and Chairman of Worlds Window Group Piyoosh Goyal for alleged graft. As per case details, Goyal had allegedly applied for over Rs 400 crore of corporate loan from SBI but only Rs 75 crore was approved.

International Affairs
1. International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women is observed today (25th November) across the globe to raise awareness about the problem. UN Secretary General’s Campaign for the year 2013 ‘Unite to end violence against women’ has announced the 25th of each month as Orange Day. The day invites to wear orange attire to highlight its calls for the eradication of violence against women without delay. This year, the Unite Campaign is extending Orange Day to 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

2. Iran signed a historic deal with the United States and five other world powers yesterday, agreeing to a temporary freeze of its nuclear program in the most significant agreement between Washington and Tehran after more than three decades of issues. The deal commits Iran to curb its nuclear activities for six months in exchange for limited and gradual sanctions relief. The six-month period will give diplomats time to negotiate a more sweeping agreement.  The deal was considered to be a significant deal to restore peace in the Middle East region and remove pressure from Global crude oil prices as Iran is one of the largest Crude Oil Producers in the world.

3. Global tech giant Apple has acquired PrimeSense, an Israeli firm which specializes in making 3D motion detection technology. PrimeSense is best known for developing gesture control for Microsoft’s Kinect sensor, and has made strides towards bringing the technology to mobile. The likely deal value is expected to be around USD 360 million.

4. Sebastian Vettel won Formula One’s season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix Sunday to complete this season on a high note. With this win, he matches Michael Schumacher’s record of 13 victories in a year and equaling the nine consecutive wins of Alberto Ascari. He had already secured his fourth straight F1 title win before this race. His Red Bull teammate Mark Webber stood second and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso stood third in the same race.

5. Ireland and Afghanistan have been qualified for next year’s ICC World Twenty20 after winning their respective matches in the Qualifiers. Ireland defeated Hong Kong and Afghanistan defeated Kenya to secure place in the ICC World Twenty20 Cup 2014. This is Ireland’s fourth successive qualification for the World Twenty20 and Afghanistan’s third qualification.

6. Jason Day, Australian Golfer won the Golf world cup at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne. Australia team (Jason Day and Adam Scott) also won the team Championships by defeating the American team of Matt Kuchar and Kevin Streelman. Indian Golfer Anirban Lahiri finished with 25th place at the tournament. India finished 26th and last in the team Championships.
